This week ..................We had a very different afternoon - 'Simon Says'. We worked in groups and explored different stable management topics.
We learned parts of the horse and parts of tack using pictures with gaps for us to write in the missing words. We saw which group knew most types of native breed ponies, and different colours of horse. After juice and crisps we learned about the beat, tempo and footfall of the horse in walk , trot and canter. We used bongo drums to beat the 4 beats for walk, 2 beats for trot and 3 beats for canter. Simon and some of the volunteers pretended to be the front and back of a pony to show the different leg sequences. Horses are better at moving their legs in the right order ! Updated 7th February 2012 On Monday 30th January IES visited the riding centre and serviced the hydraulic lift. The hose has been replaced, it really needed doing, and IES are now contracted to check and maintain this equipment regularly for us. Today Chris rode Harold and is working towards a controlled sitting trot. Jade rode Conker while Ellie rode Joey. They all practiced steering and trotting. Courtney rode Conker and worked really hard, managing rising trot not only on the long side but also round the corners - with no side walker. "Brilliant". Orla rode Harvey and she trotted for the first time. Well done Orla! Rebecca rode Sultan and made him work hard, Beth had lots of fun on Shamus. In the third session Abbey rode Jasmine, she likes Jasmine's smooth trot. Lucy rode Ferdie and Carys rode Ben. Everybody practiced steering, walking and trotting. Fundraising Update ..............
We have given a tube of Smarties to all riders and volunteers. The idea is that you eat the Smarties, fill the tube with your loose change, return the tube, get more Smarties, etc etc. That way we’re all involved in fundraising and get to eat chocolate - it’s a win win situation!!
